Broncos have big need at TE despite re-signing 3 players to pair with Evan Engram

For the first week of the offseason, the Denver Broncos hadn't made any outside additions. They broke the trend with a blockbuster trade for Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins, sending a first and third rounder for the star WR.

However, the Broncos still aren't done adding to their offense. Bo Nix needs more help, and while the wide receiver room might be settled, they still could use more running back depth.

But the biggest need for the Broncos offense this offseason, according to ESPN's Jeff Legwold, is tight end. Despite re-signing three players to pair with Evan Engram, the Broncos' tight end room isn't good enough.

"Biggest remaining roster hole: Tight end," Legwold writes. "It's difficult to see the upgrade plan at the position beyond potential game-plan adjustments unless the Broncos are poised to use a premium draft pick in April."

As the Broncos have built their offense this offseason, they've paired Engram with three returning tight ends to create a full depth chart of tight ends.

Adam Trautman signed a three-year deal, while Nate Adkins and Lucas Krull signed one-year contracts to return to the Broncos.

None of the tight ends on the roster is good enough to preclude the Broncos from spending draft capital or money on a top tight end.

Last year, this same tight end room had three touchdowns all season, with every tight end finishing the year with fewer than 9.8 yards-per-reception.

It was a bleak season for the Broncos' tight end room, and they could use some major help at the position in 2026 and beyond.

Kenyon Sadiq, the top tight end, isn't an option anymore with the Waddle trade, as the Broncos no longer have the 30th overall pick.

They have one pick in the first three rounds, with the 62nd overall selection being their lone chance to draft a tight end who could be an instant impact player.

David Njoku is the best free agent tight end, but coming off an injury at over 30 years old, there's cause for concern.

The Broncos are in a tricky spot, as they still need a tight end despite bringing three players back to pair with Engram. It's a four-man deep TE room, and yet, the Broncos' biggest need is that room, according to Legwold.
