To put it simply, offense was hard to come by for the Cleveland Guardians last season. Throughout the regular season, they finished with a team batting average of .226, the second-lowest across Major League Baseball.
Despite that, they were still able to close out strong and win the American League Central and make the postseason. But, with limited offense, they weren't able to get past the Detroit Tigers in the Wild Card.
Over the offseason, the front office did not do much. However, they did strike a minor league deal with Rhys Hoskins, who has looked good so far during the spring.

Guardians' insider optimistic about the club's offensive outlook
Cleveland will certainly need to get better numbers offensively if they want to win the division once again and make another postseason appearance. They have to get through the Detroit Tigers, who have arguably one of the best rotations in baseball after striking deals with Framber Valdez and Justin Verlander.
Team insider Tim Stebbins likes what he has seen so far from the offense and shares a positive outlook on the club heading into Opening Day.
"The presence of Rhys Hoskins will add a professional at-bat in the middle of the Guardians' order, and one from the right side in a left-handed-heavy position player group. Chase DeLauter has been steadily durable this spring and stellar at the plate, and guys such as Brayan Rocchio and Angel Martinez have flashed ahead of a season in which Cleveland will need them."
The club's No. 2 prospect, Chase DeLauter, has looked great, and so have Brayan Rocchio and Angel Martinez. You also cannot forget about Steven Kwan, who is set to dominate both sides of the ball this year.
Take them and put in Jose Ramirez, who is one of the most consistent players in all of baseball, and Cleveland may be a team that other AL clubs will not want to overlook.
