The High Point Panthers delivered the first big upset of March Madness in 2026, upsetting Wisconsin on Thursday, 83-82.

The high-scoring affair was an offensive thriller throughout, but the Panthers survived thanks to 44 second-half points. A big reason for that was Chase Johnston, a shooting specialist known for his pinpoint accuracy from deep.

Who is Chase Johnston?

Johnston is High Point's three-point specialist whose job it is to make deep threes. In fact, he hadn't hit a two-pointer all year. Entering the NCAA tournament, Johnston was 0-4 from two and 64-132 from three.

However, in the biggest moment of the game, Johnston actually hit a layup to give High Point the lead.

That ended up being the game-winning basket, capping off a stellar day for Johnston. The sixth-year player had 14 points in the game, 12 on four threes and two off that layup.
