Disappointing update on Will Ospreay's AEW return - Reports

AEW star Will Ospreay is currently sidelined due to injury-related issues. The 32-year-old is one of the biggest names in the Tony Khan-led promotion and a former two-time International Champion.

Ospreay's last match in All Elite Wrestling took place at Forbidden Door 2025, where he, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Darby Allin, & Golden☆Lovers defeated the Death Riders, the Young Bucks, and Gabe Kidd in a lights out steel cage match. After this showdown, Jon Moxley and his faction brutally attacked him, writing him off TV.

The Aerial Assassin successfully underwent surgery on his neck in September. He assured fans via a social media post that he is focused on recovering as soon as possible and returning to wrestling. He was rumored to make his in-ring comeback in January 2026. However, the wait is now expected to be longer.

According to Dave Meltzer, Ospreay is nowhere close to returning. He is, in fact, expected to begin light-weight workouts in January.

"Regarding Will Ospreay, some people brought up to me from a social media post thinking he would be back in January. That is not the case. He is hopeful of being able to start light weight workouts in January. He is a long way away from returning," said Metlzer. [H/T: Ringside News]

Former WWE star EC3 dislikes Will Ospreay's booking in AEW

In a recent episode of The Wrestling Outlaws, former WWE star EC3 said that he is unimpressed with AEW's portrayal of Ospreay. He added that if he were in Tony Khan's shoes, the former International Champion should have been a top babyface.

"I don't think they did him a good service in how they portrayed him. Because, if I was booking that show, he would be the top babyface, like red hot right now. Good wrestling, being great in the ring is one thing but like that dude should be the top guy, attracting new eyeballs," said EC3.

Will Ospreay is a potential AEW World Champion. Only time will tell what the future holds for him.
