The Minnesota Timberwolves are looking to recapture the magic of recent postseason runs. The team has been on the cusp of the NBA Finals over the past few seasons.
Now, at the start of the 2025-26 season, the team is off to a rocky start with a 3-3 record.
One of the biggest concerns has been the desperate need for a true point guard. Veteran guard Milke Conley has continued to provide leadership; however, at 38, he can't carry the full load at this stage of his career.
Head coach Chris Finch has experimented with the starting lineup by starting Donte DiVencenzo over the last several games, but the results have been minimal. To make matters worse, franchise star Anthony Edwards has been sidelined with an injury.
In a recent trade proposal from Bleacher Report, Greg Swarzt suggested the Timberwolves could land Austin Reaves from the Los Angeles Lakers.
Austin Reaves is a better overall version of DiVincenzo, as he averaged 20.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.1 steals, and shot 37.7 percent from three for the Los Angeles Lakers last season," wrote Swartz.
"Contract concerns could cause the Lakers to sniff around Reaves' trade market, however, as the 27-year-old will almost certainly decline a $14.9 million team option and become an unrestricted free agent next summer."
Reaves would be a seamless fit for the Timberwolves. He is in the midst of a breakout season for the Lakers, averaging 32.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 9.0 assists while shooting 50.4% from the field. He has leaped forward in his career without LeBron James, who is currently sidelined with an injury.
If traded to Minnesota, Reaves could provide the team with another go-to scorer and playmaker, helping lift the Timberwolves into title contention alongside Edwards and Julius Randle.
