Bills $21 million free agent signing suffers potentially serious injury vs. Chiefs

The Buffalo Bills are looking to finish off a win over the Kansas City Chiefs at the time of writing. Buffalo leads 28-21, and is running down the clock on a win that would send them to 6-2, and keep them within a half game of the New England Patriots in the AFC East.

The Bills will certainly be thrilled if they pull off the win, but they may have lost one of their free agent signings from this past spring for the long haul. Defensive tackle Michael Hoecht made his season debut against the Carolina Panthers in Week 8 after serving a six-game suspension for PEDs. He had 1.5 sacks in his Bills debut, and added half of a sack against the Chiefs. Unfortunately, he suffered a lower leg injury that looks serious.

Per Tracy Wolfson during the CBS broadcast, Hoecht was unable to put any weight on his injured leg and the injury appears to be an Achilles injury. If it is torn, he is done for the season. Hoecht refused to go to the locker room and wanted to stay on the bench with his teammates.

While Hoecht isn't necessarily a household name, his production in his first two games with Buffalo is hard to ignore. Should he be gone for the year, it will be a blow to their defensive line rotation.

Hoecht signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Brown in 2021, helping the Rams win the Super Bowl that season. He signed a three-year, $21 million deal with the Bills in the 2025 offseason.
