Marco Luciano is providing a prime example of what it's like to be on the fringes of an MLB roster picture during this offseason.
Luciano is newly with the New York Yankees. They're already the fourth organization he's been a part of season the 2025 season ended.
He went into the offseason as a member of the San Francisco Giants, still under contract for the season ahead.
But they designated him for assignment to remove him from the 40-man roster.

Exactly two weeks later, on Dec. 19, the Pirates went the DFA route with Luciano, as well.
The Baltimore Orioles claimed Luciano off waivers on Jan. 7.
He lasted eight days, getting DFA'd on Jan. 15.
The Yankees claimed him on Jan. 22.

There's no telling if he'll stick there or not.
Luciano is a former top-100 prospect, clearly just intriguing enough to bring aboard but not compelling enough to keep around when other players are brought newly to 40-man rosters throughout the offseason.
At this point, Luciano will just want to look where he's supposed to be on the eve of Spring Training and go there. For now, he's moving around all over the place.
