Why Steve Angeli isn't playing today for Syracuse vs. Notre Dame with injury, transfer news

Steve Angeli made some huge plays last season for Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish needed him to make it to the College Football Playoff title game.

He left South Bend after the year, though, entering the transfer portal. He chose to bring his talents to Syracuse and play for the Orange and head coach Fran Brown.

SU has made the trip to Notre Dame on Saturday, and Angeli will be there. But he won't be on the field.

What started as a potentially special season for Angeli in his new threads has instead turned to disappointment.

Why isn't Steve Angeli playing today?

Angeli isn't playing for Syracuse on Saturday, or the rest of the season, because he's injured.

He tore his Achilles during the Orange's win at Clemson early in the season.

Before that, Angeli had completed 62.8% of his passes for 1,317 yards and 10 touchdowns with only two interceptions.

Angeli is slated to be back for Syracuse next season, he told reporters this week.

Syracuse is only 3-7 but likely would've had a much better season if Angeli stayed healthy.

The hope will be that Angeli heals by the start of next season to give the Orange a better campaign.

In the meantime, though, Syracuse is massive underdogs on Saturday in South Bend, in large part because Angeli is hurt and can't take the field against his former team.
