Why Packers traded Dontayvion Wicks to Eagles out of WR depth chart

1 hour ago 3

The Green Bay Packers already lost Romeo Doubs this offseason in free agency.

Now, they've voluntarily given up another WR: Dontayvion Wicks has been traded to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The trade reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter looks like this:

  • Eagles get: WR Dontayvion Wicks
  • Packers get: 2026 fifth-round pick, 2027 seventh-round pick

Schefter adds that Wicks is signing a one-year, $12.5 million extension with the Eagles.

In 2025, Wicks had 30 catches for 332 yards and two touchdowns. He has 108 career NFL catches after being drafted by the Packers in the fifth round of 2023 out of Virginia.

Now, the Packers have removed him from their WR depth chart (while the Eagles maybe move closer to an A.J. Brown trade).

Why did the Packers trade Dontayvion Wicks?

The Packers are essentially admitting Wicks likely wouldn't have had a big role for them in 2026.

They still have a crowded WR depth chart, even after trading Wicks.

This way, they get to take a couple fliers on draft picks at other positions where they might have more need.

Packers WR depth chart

The Packers have a big-three on their current WR depth chart:

  • Christian Watson
  • Jayden Reed
  • Matthew Golden

Beyond them, they have names like:

  • Bo Melton
  • Savion Williams
  • Skyy Moore

Also under contract at this point in the offseason are Isaiah Neyor, Jakobie Keeney-James and Will Sheppard.
