Masters 2026 purse, payout breakdown: How much prize money does the winner make?

13 hours ago 8

The Masters is golf's cornerstone event, and The Green Jacket is one of golf's most sought-after icons of victory.

Last year's tournament total purse sat at $21 million to be distributed to the top 50 golfers, so a similar number should be in order ahead of this year's event. Last year's champion, Rory McIlroy, took home $4.2 million of that purse, or 20%.

With the Masters set to kick off this week, it's time to start examining payouts and what this year's winner will take home.

Here's a look at this year's Masters purse and payouts.

Masters Tournament purse 2026

This year's Masters purse amount has yet to be released. Using last year's model, which was a record-setting $21 million, this year's purse may be set to grow yet again to compete with The Players Championship.

This year's Players Championship was equipped with a purse of $25 million. Cameron Young, this year's winner, took home $4.5 million or about 18% of the total purse.

How much money does the Masters winner get?

While it's still unclear how much this year's Masters winner will earn, Rory McIlroy took home $4.2 million for his win at Augusta last year.

Last year's tournament upped the winner's amount to 20% of the purse, which was formerly 18% prior to 2025. As of now, it is unclear if this year's purse will be raised again or if this year's tournament will use last year's footprints.

In 2024, Masters winner Scottie Scheffler took home $3.6 million, compared to Jon Rahm's $3.24 million in 2023.

Masters Tournament payouts

In the event of a tie in the standings at the Masters, the prize money awarded to each of those players is the evenly divided amount of the total money the players would have been awarded had they all finished separately.

For example, if Tommy Fleetwood, Jon Rahm, and Rory McIlroy all finished tied for second, the money for second ($2,268,000), third ($1,428,000) and fourth place ($1,008,000) would be added together and divided by three, paying each player $1,492,000.
