Eagles WR depth chart: What trade for Dontayvion Wicks means for A.J. Brown, Jalen Hurts and more

1 hour ago 3

The Eagles made a trade at the WR position Friday, but it wasn't the one many NFL fans have been eagerly anticipating. While questions still swirl around whether A.J. Brown will be in Philadelphia when the season starts, Dontayvion Wicks was traded in a deal that sent the Packers WR to the Eagles for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-rounder.

Additionally, Wicks plans to sign a one-year, $12.5 million extension with the Eagles, meaning his contract now expires at the end of the 2027 season.

For Packers fans, this Eagles offensive unit is starting to look more familiar by the day. Sean Mannion signed a deal to become the Eagles' new offensive coordinator this offseason after serving as the quarterbacks coach in Green Bay in 2025.

Wicks is the third wide receiver that Philadelphia brought in this offseason, after signing Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore via free agency.

Here's more on the Eagles' wide receiver room and where Wicks may find himself this season.

1. A.J. Brown

A.J. Brown's name has been circling the rumor mill in trade talks dating back to last season. As of now, however, he's still an Eagle, and a productive one at that.

Brown had over 1,000 receiving yards in 2025, with a 52.1% success rate. He also had seven touchdowns to boot. While this wasn't quite the Pro-Bowl season that Brown saw in 2020, 2022 and 2023, he remains a top wide receiver that would benefit most teams.

But does the Wicks move mean that it's even more likely Brown has one foot out the door? The Patriots remain the top suitor for the WR's services based on insider reports.

2. DeVonta Smith

As far as production in 2025, Brown and Smith are fairly interchangeable. Smith finished just five receiving yards ahead of Brown last season on one fewer reception. The main difference between Smith and Brown in this case is that Smith can feel much more confident about where he's playing in 2026. If Brown were to be traded, Smith would be the clear No. 1 option for Jalen Hurts.

3. Dontayvion Wicks

Wicks is the new man in town for the Eagles. After three seasons with the Packers, Wicks is looking to step into a full-time starter role at WR. The problem is that he's not one of the two best options on this Eagles team in its current form.

4. Hollywood Brown

After missing the majority of 2024 with a joint dislocation, Brown responded with a quality season in Kansas City. While Brown only started six games, he scored five touchdowns and managed 587 receiving yards. He likely doesn't break through Smith and A.J. Brown for a starting job, but should a trade occur, Brown could compete with Wicks for targets behind Smith.

5. Darius Cooper

The youngest member of this wide receiver crew, Cooper has just one NFL season under his belt. The undrafted free agent signed before the 2025 season and made the most of limited opportunities with the team. Of his nine receptions, Cooper managed 92 yards on a 63.6% success rate. The Eagles have also been high on his blocking ability.

How old is Dontayvion Wicks?

Wicks is just 24 years old, but he turns 25 before the start of the 2026 NFL season. This makes Wicks the second-youngest wide receiver on the Eagles roster, just 159 days older than Darius Cooper.

While the one-year extension means that Wicks only has two years left on his deal, should he re-sign, he could be a long-term option for the Eagles.

Wicks has been an on-and-off starter throughout his first three seasons in Green Bay, with his receiving yards going down in each subsequent year. While some of this can be attributed to QB Jordan Love's decrease in passing yards, it still represents an overall step back for Wicks.

The former fifth-round pick will look for a bounce back year in Philadelphia after netting just two touchdowns in 14 games last season.

Will the Eagles trade A.J. Brown?

Rumors still swirl around an A.J. Brown trade, but it may not happen for a few months, if at all.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, "the belief remains that, if an AJ Brown trade were to happen, it would likely occur after June 1, when the cap burden would be more manageable for the Eagles."

AJ Brown’s future in Philadelphia remains a topic of conversation, and in the meantime, the Eagles add another WR in Dontayvion Wicks from Green Bay.

While Eagles fans are sure to be antsy about the future at wide receiver, it's likely that a couple months will need to pass before achieving any closure on this vital position.
