Elon Musk recently explained why he is not a fan of the GTA franchise. Grand Theft Auto has always been about committing various crimes, which also included killing police officers. Through this game, Rockstar Games wanted to create a parody of American culture, focusing on the crimes that take place in the country. Though the franchise is extremely popular in the video game industry, Musk stated that it is not his cup of tea.

In a recent interview at Nikhil Kamath's show, People by WTF, Musk was having a discussion on morality, during which he was asked whether he had played GTA, in which players have to commit various crimes to progress.

The CEO of Tesla explained that though he has played a bit of GTA 5, he did not like that he had to kill police officers to progress in the game. He even went on to claim that he does not like killing NPCs at all in video games, which is a common occurrence in many titles, even in those that he has played before. He concluded that because he had to kill police officers to progress, he decided to stop playing GTA altogether.

Here's what he said:

"I have only played a little bit of GTA. In GTA 5, you literally cannot progress unless you kill the police. And I'm like, this does not work for me. I actually do not like killing the NPCs in video games, its not my thing. So, actually I did not like GTA, I actually stopped [playing] when it said the only way to proceed is to shoot at the police. Like, I don't want to do that." [Timestamp - 58:30]

The multi-billionaire has always been a fan of video games and has enjoyed popular titles like Elden Ring, Diablo 4, Path of Exile, and more. He is even considered one of the high-ranking players in dungeon crawlers like Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2.

Elon Musk has previously expressed discomfort with killing police in GTA 5

This is not the first time Elon Musk has explained why he was never able to play GTA titles. Back in December 2023, when Rockstar Games released GTA 6's trailer, Elon Musk replied to a Twitter employee's post about not playing the game series.

He said that he tried to play GTA 5, but had to stop the moment when the game asked him to attack and kill police officers. Many GTA fans and other gamers had polarizing reactions to Musk's comment.
