Brooks Koepka made headlines last week by announcing his exit from LIV Golf. Following this, his LIV rival Bryson DeChambeau came out to revealed that the news was “quite a shock to a lot of people.” The two-time US Open champion made the comments while waiting for his own contract to expire in 2026.

DeChambeau is yet to renew his LIV Golf contract. The 32-year-old had earlier expressed interest in re-signing with the breakaway tour during the US Open. However, he still hasn’t put ink to the paper. The ace golfer has now stated that the “conversations are in process” for a fresh contract. He further hinted at possible difference in opinion by stating that the two parties involved are “getting to a place that makes sense for both sides.”

Speaking about his LIV contract negotiation, Bryson DeChambeau said in an interview with Flushing It:

“I mean, look, it’s confidential. I’m not going to share too much, but the conversations are in process. We have to get to a place where both parties have a good understanding of one another. It is getting to a place that makes sense for both sides.”

He further addressed Koepka’s move and admitted being on the fence about the latter possibly getting back into the PGA Tour.

DeChambeau said:

“You never know. Life throws curveballs and, obviously, we saw (Koepka leaving LIV) and that was quite a shock to a lot of people and something that, you know, it is what it is… I don't know what they (PGA Tour) should allow or not… If they’re going to be doing it by the book, they should do it by the book and not give any special exemption. But if there’s a special exemption, it definitely opens the doors for others to do the same, which, you know, it’s a slippery slope for sure.”

Bryson DeChambeau lauds new LIV Golf CEO

Bryson DeChambeau had earlier stated that the LIV Golf officials sees the “value” in him. However, he has since added that the series need some change moving forward. It is pertinent to note the Saudi-backed series replaced outgoing CEO Greg Norman with Scott O'Neil in January. DeChambeau, who has three LIV wins since joining in 2022, lauded the new chief executive for doing a “fabulous” job.

Bryson DeChambeau:

“Things have got to change. Things have got to improve. And I think Scott’s done a fabulous job with the year that he’s had. And I think this year’s going to be even better, now he’s got the right people in place and he can run the organization the way he wants to do this here. So, it’s going to be interesting to see, especially with the new branding coming on. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens.”

For the unversed, O’Niel recently announced LIV Golf’s decision to shift from 54 to 72 holes per tournament. The move to ditch its flagship format came after the circuit was denied world ranking points by Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). LIV players, including DeChambeau, have earlier openly criticized the denial of rankings points recognition by the governing body.
