Steelers predicted to solve wide receiver problem with trade for 499-yard playmaker

The Pittsburgh Steelers are widely reported to be in the market for a wide receiver ahead of the Nov. 4 trade deadline.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is the latest of many insiders to report that Pittsburgh is shopping around for a wide receiver, which makes sense considering the Steelers desperately need to add an adequate No. 2 for Aaron Rodgers.

Pro Football and Sports Network's Jacob Infante has the right idea for the Steelers. He is predicting Pittsburgh will acquire New Orleans Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed in a trade deadline deal.

"Rashid Shaheed would bring an element of speed to Pittsburgh’s offense, which is known heavily for its size and tight end-heavy personnel packages to this point," Infante writes.

"He’d be a realistic trade target with the Saints in a rebuilding phase, and he would give Aaron Rodgers another dynamic weapon to throw to, thus diversifying the Steelers’ passing attack," he concluded.

Several reports suggest that Shaheed is available at the trade deadline, but Rapoport notes in his aforementioned report that the Saints' wideout "would require a high price," which seems to be the trend among potential sellers.

But we would suspect that prices will come down over the next few days, assuming those teams are actually motivated to sell.

Shaheed would be an instant upgrade in Pittsburgh's offense and a strong No. 2 option that would add more speed and a deep threat to Arthur Smith's unit.

Shaheed has tallied 499 yards through nine games, which would actually be tops in the Steelers' offense. And, that total is made more impressive by the fact that he's had Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough throwing him the football.

With Rodgers as his quarterback, Shaheed would be in the best situation of his career, so it's possible he could reach new heights in Pittsburgh.

But, the price will have to be right. If the Saints are looking for a third- or fourth-round pick, general manager Omar Khan isn't likely to bite.

However, if Khan can get Shaheed for a fifth-rounder or a pick swap that sees the Steelers give up a fourth-rounder, he should pull the trigger.
