Minecraft 2025 updates recap: All major updates released this year

The year 2025 has been an amazing year for Minecraft because of the great updates it received. This is the first year with Mojang Studios’s revised update structure where they focus on smaller but more impactful “game drops” instead of the previous practice of releasing one major update annually.

This article will list down all the major updates of Minecraft released this year, what they added, and most importantly, how the new features improved the gameplay experience. The best thing about these game drops is that they focused on improving every aspect of the game.

Every major Minecraft update released in 2025

1) Spring to Life

The year started with the Spring to Life game drop that came out as a ray of hope because the developers at Mojang Studios understood what the game needed to make the experience better. The update added new animal mob variants for cows, pigs, and chickens. This instantly made the blocky world more alive.

Then they added some quality of life improvements such as falling leaves effect, leaf litter, and ambient sounds that made the blocky world more immersive. Before this update, Mojang Studios would just add a new mob, some hidden regions such as the trial chambers, etc.

2) Chase the Skies

The developers kept the trend of great updates alive with the release of Chase the Skies. They also showed that future updates are not just about adding new content but also improving the previous ones. To make exploration more fun, Chase the Skies added new ghast variants that players could tame and fly around on.

The other great change in the update was with the saddles. After more than a decade since the saddle was added to the game, finally players could now craft it rather than finding it in loot chests. Saddles were a rare item for no apparent reason. Thankfully, they can now be crafted very easily and in early game so that players can ride around horses the moment they tame them.

3) The Copper Age

The Copper Age was arguably one of the best updates of the year because the entire focus of this game drop was to improve the copper item that was ignored for far too long. Copper barely had any use other than being used as a decorative block. The Copper Age update changed things, turning copper from useless to the best metal for early gameplay.

Players can now craft tools, weapons, armors, and even chests with the copper block. To everyone’s surprise, the developers also added the copper golem mob that was a part of a previous Mob Vote event.

4) Mounts of Mayhem

The final game drop of the year was the Mounts of Mayhem update and it was special because it introduced the first underwater mob in Minecraft that players can ride; the nautilus. The developers also added the parched, a skeleton variant that can be found in the desert biome along with the camel husk mob.

Zombie horse has been in the game for a long time but the only way to access it was by using commands or spawn eggs. But now, these mobs spawn naturally with a zombie riding them. One thing is for certain, the challenges in the blocky world have been upgraded.
