Mets trade prediction lands Washington Nationals all-star starter

One thing is a given this MLB offseason. The New York Mets will certainly be active in the player transaction market, whether it be signing players or making meaningful trades.

After a sour end to the 2025 MLB season, Mets' owner Steve Cohen and exec David Stearns have to be eager to make amends with the Mets fanbase. In a recent 'wild' trade prediction, the New York Mets land a quality, consistent starter to help with the rotation woes.

Mets trade idea lands Nationals' MacKenzie Gore

According to Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller, the Washington Nationals may consider offloading from starter MacKenzie Gore this offseason, and he may fall in the laps of the Mets:

"The Trade: Washington Nationals send LHP MacKenzie Gore to New York Mets for RHP Jonah Tong and 1B/OF Ryan Clifford"

Gore still comes with two years of team control and is coming off his best season as a starter. Over 159.2 innings, Gore posted a 4.17 ERA, struck out 185 batters, and was named to the All-Star team.

When you consider the Mets' starting staff really struggled down the stretch with injuries and lack of durability, Gore can fix that. He's made 25+ starts in each of the last three seasons.

Jonah Tong may be a future star for New York, but the Mets are looking to compete now, and the full youth movement isn't exactly a reasonable route when it comes to starting pitching. And will the Nationals even be able to, or consider paying Gore when he gets to free agency?

The only thing holding this trade idea from being a near certainty is the fact that Washington may not want to trade MacKenzie Gore to an NL East Division rival.
