Star India spinner Varun Chakaravarthy will return to action in the T20I series against Australia. Suryakumar Yadav and his men will play five matches Down Under. Canberra will host the first game on Wednesday, October 29.
The last time India were in Australia for a T20I series in 2020/21, they won 2-1. Coming into this series, the Men in Blue are the World champions, having won the 2024 T20 World Cup. They also triumphed in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2025.
On the other hand, Australia toured New Zealand for three T20Is earlier this month. They won the series 2-0 and will be confident to take on India at home. Their young bowlers, like Nathan Ellis and Xavier Bartlett, among others, will be tested against a strong Indian batting line-up.
For the visitors, the focus will be on the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, and Varun Chakaravarthy in the bowling unit.
That said, here is a look at three bowlers who could end up with the most wickets in this series.
#3 Nathan Ellis

Ellis last played in the format against South Africa at home in August this year. He bagged three wickets from two matches. The pacer has played five T20Is against India and has picked up seven wickets. He has played six matches in the format at home and has 10 wickets at an average of 15.40.
Overall, Nathan Ellis has featured in 27 T20Is so far. He has 41 wickets at an average of 18.80 and an economy of 7.84. Having played a few games in the IPL, he will look to use his experience of bowling against Indian batters.
#2 Jasprit Bumrah

He has played six T20Is Down Under, having picked up eight wickets at an average of 22.75 and an economy of 8.08. Bumrah bowled well in the IPL this year as well. He accounted for 18 wickets from 12 matches at an average of 17.55 and an economy of 6.67.
Against explosive Australian batters like Mitchell Marsh, Travis Head, and Tim David, among others, Bumrah will have a key role to play with the ball for the visitors.
#1 Varun Chakaravarthy
India v United Arab Emirates - Asia Cup - Source: GettyThis will be Varun Chakaravarthy's first appearance Down Under. He has never played against Australia in the format before. However, he will bank on his experience of having bowled to a few of their batters in the IPL.
Varun Chakaravarthy bagged seven wickets from six matches in the Asia Cup 2025 at an average of 20.42 and an economy rate of 6.50. In 11 T20Is this year, he has picked up 21 scalps at an average of 13.38 and an economy of 7.02, highlighting his impressive form.
Against the hard-hitting Australian batters, who usually tend to struggle against spin, Varun Chakaravarthy could be a crucial weapon with the ball for the Men in Blue.
