Atletico Mineiro and Independiente del Valle return to action in the Copa Sudamericana when they go head-to-head in the second leg of the semi-finals on Tuesday. With last week’s first leg ending all square, a place in the final remains very much up for grabs and this makes for an exciting clash at the Arena MRV.

It has been an impressive Copa Sudamericana campaign for Atletico Mineiro, who finished second in Group H before knocking out Bucaramanga, Godoy Cruz and Bolivar en route to the semi-finals.

Jorge Sampaoli’s men showed their mettle in the first leg of the semis on October 22, when they netted a 91st-minute equalizer to salvage a vital 1-1 draw against Independiente del Valle in Ecuador.

Mineiro head into Tuesday’s crunch tie fresh off the back of securing a 1-0 victory over Ceara in the Brasileiro Serie A, where they currently sit 13th in the table.

On the other hand, Independiente del Valle dropped down to the Sudamericana as they crashed out of the Copa Libertadores after finishing third in Group B.

Javier Rabanal’s side secured a dominant 5-1 aggregate victory over Vasco da Gama in the Sudamericana playoff round in July before needing penalties to scrape past Mushuc Runa and Once Caldas en route to the semi-finals.

Independiente head into Tuesday’s return leg unbeaten in seven of their last eight games across all competitions (4W, 3D) and will be looking to reach the Sudamericana final for the first time since 2022, when they beat Sao Paulo 2-0 to clinch a second title.
