After a record number of in-season head-coaching firings in college football, several names have been added to the speculation about who might be next?
Deion Sanders' Colorado team has been blown out in consecutive weeks, along with Dabo Swinney losing his cool on the ACC officials. Neither coach seems to be on the way out of their respective cities yet. But a fake post on social media had many people believing Maryland's Mike Locksley was gone.
The X account, @RealRobReinhart, claimed Locksley was parting ways with the school.
"Breaking: Maryland is parting ways with football HC Mike Locksley, per source. "I’m told yesterday’s blowout homecoming loss to Indiana was the final factor in the decision," the post read. "Locksley led Maryland to three straight winning seasons and three consecutive bowl wins from 2021-23, but has failed to reach that level since."
This! 👇Makes zero sense to me. Locksley loves that school and this team and its roster was about a year away. https://t.co/6vgjSP1c7B
— Tim Brando (@TimBrando) November 2, 2025This post wasn't satire by any means, just provided false information. It quickly spread around social media with people wondering if there was truth to the single report? FOX Sports commentator Tim Brando was even caught off-guard by the post.
Locksley has lead the Terps to a 37-45 record overall in his seventh season. Maryland fell to Indiana 55-10 on Saturday, dropping to 4-4 this season.
With Hugh Freeze out at Auburn, there have been eleven mid-season firing across the FBS landscape.
