The San Diego Padres' front office will face several key decisions regarding some of its top players. That includes Dylan Cease, who is set to hit free agency as one of the top starters on the market.

With players across MLB being able to sign with other teams later this week, the rumors are starting to swirl from all angles, and a recent predictions piece from Bleacher Report has Dylan Cease landing on an unexpected contender.

Chicago Cubs are predicted to land Dylan Cease

In the recent predictions piece by Bleacher Report's Erik Beaston, Dylan Cease is predicted to sign with the Chicago Cubs:

"It is such as strong fit, at a position of need for the Cubs, that it almost makes too much sense for Chicago to go sign him as soon as they can."

"Prediction: Cease signs with the Cubs"

The only thing that may be stopping the Cubs from pulling this off is the pricetag. However, Cease may want to return to Chicago, where he was a starter for the White Sox for several seasons.

Cease had an up-and-down 2025 season, as his ERA was 4.55 in 32 starts and he allowed a career-high 21 home runs, but he continues to prove he has some of the best swing-and-miss stuff in baseball. He recorded 215 strikeouts on the season, the fifth consecutive season he has reached that mark.

Wrigley Field can be pitcher-friendly depending on the day, and the slightly colder weather in the early part of the season could help a pitcher like Cease keep the ball in the park.
