Weird things are happening for NFL wide receivers right now.
Just in the last week, the news for the Dallas Cowboys' duo of George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb has combined with odd stuff coming out of the Buffalo Bills with Keon Coleman and the San Francisco 49ers with Brandon Aiyuk.
Wide receiver is always a bit of a volatile, drama-filled position. But this is an extra level of all that, it feels like.
Coleman was surprisingly benched for the entirety of the Bills' Week 11 game on Nov. 16. Then, he remained benched for Week 12 on Thursday night. He showed up late to a meeting before Week 11, and it wasn't the first time it had happened.
Pickens and Lamb were just sat for the Cowboys' first drive on Monday night against the Las Vegas Raiders. Reports have varied, but it sounds like the WRs missed curfew while being out in Vegas.
Aiyuk hasn't played all season with an injury in San Francisco, and there sounds like quite a bit of discontent there that may result in Aiyuk not playing another snap for the 49ers.
Are these situations connected? Not necessarily, other than through the wide receiver through line in NFL history that often has WRs often filling the diva role.
But it is quite the plot twist setup, over and over.
Fantasy football managers, bettors and NFL fans have all been thrown off by these changes in roles and surprise absences.
Maybe there's more to come, maybe not. But this rapid-fire sequence of unexpected wide receiver news has certainly been quite the series of events.
