A forgotten star laid out a major challenge to Jon Moxley moments after the latter's first Continental Championship defence. Lance Archer was once one of AEW's biggest powerhouses during the pandemic era, but over time, he had to take a backseat. He is currently part of the Don Callis Family and hasn't been seen on AEW TV since October 2025.
The One True King won the Continental Championship at Worlds End. Just a few days later, he defeated Don Callis Family's Josh Alexander on tonight's New Year's Smash of Dynamite. He was limping on one leg during the entire match but still managed to win. Moments later, MVP and Shelton Benjamin confronted him. It seems like the Hurt Syndicate member will go after the Purveyor of Violence for the Continental Championship in the future.
Following Jon Moxley's victory against Josh Alexander, Lance Archer took to X. He reminded everyone that he beat the Continental Champion in July 2021 in a Texas Death Match and allegedly laid out a challenge for a title shot in 2026. Fans are wondering when the two stars collide once again.
"Fun fact @AEW. I BEAT Mox! Just saying. 2026," he wrote.Take a look at the post here.
A major update on Jon Moxley's future
Rumours claim that the Death Riders might kick out the former AEW World Champion soon, as he has had multiple losses in 2025. During his journey to become the Continental Champion, he turned babyface.
According to the Self-Made Pro, Jon Moxley may not be evicted from the Death Riders, as many believe. It is reported that AEW isn't planning a straight-up betrayal angle.
"There are increasing voices in AEW that are of the belief that Jon Moxley is not planning that kind of conventional stable break-up. It’s unconfirmed on the AEW creative side that this is the case, but there are voices within the promotion that I’ve heard from that again, they are of the belief that it’s not going to play out in the way that the fans exactly expect, in the sense that they turn heel on Jon and take Jon out," the report said.It remains to be seen who will be next in line to challenge the One True King.
