Cody Rhodes has achieved a remarkable feat in WWE. The American Nightmare has completed 150 days as the Undisputed WWE Champion in his second reign. Cody's first reign lasted for 378 days after he won the title on April 7, 2024 untill he lost it to John Cena at WrestleMania 41 on April 20, 2025.
He won back the title from Cena at SummerSlam on August 3, 2025. Since then, he has defended the gold twice against Drew McIntyre and has won both matches clean. His next title defence will take place on January 9, 2026, episode of SmackDown in Berlin, Germany, against Drew McIntyre. The two will compete in a Three Stages of Hell match, and most probably, this will be the final match in their rivalry.
Cody's rivalry with McIntyre reached unprecedented levels when he attacked McIntyre at his home in Nashville, Tennessee, on December 15, 2025. The Scottish Warrior had disrupted Cody's match against NXT Champion Oba Femi on Saturday Night's Main Event on December 13, 2025. The attack was a result of Cody's growing frustration with McIntyre and his constant interferences despite losing his matches.
The former WWE Champion was suspended by Nick Aldis following an attack on the match referee on the November 7 episode of SmackDown.Despite being suspended, Paul Heyman had roped in McIntyre as the fourth member of his WarGames team against Cody Rhodes' team at Survivor Series: WarGames.
There are rumors that Drew McIntyre can dethrone Cody Rhodes as the Undisputed WWE Champion soon. The Scottish Psychopath last won the WWE Championship in 2020 at WrestleMania 36 against Brock Lesnar. Since then, he hasn't won the gold, and although he has appeared in title matches, he hasn't been able to win any match.
It will be interesting to see if McIntyre can defeat Rhodes on January 9, 2026, and win the title for the second time in his career.
Roman Reigns pitched Cody Rhodes' loss at WrestleMania 39
Cody Rhodes lost the WWE Championship match against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 in 2023. Cody had marched to the main event of the Mania after winning the Rumble, and it was highly anticipated that he would beat Reigns. However, the company booked a defeat for him, thus surprising the fans.
It has now come to light that it was Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman who pitched the idea of Cody losing that night, and the idea was approved by former Chairman Vince McMahon.
Dave Meltzer made this revelation at his Wrestling Observer Radio recently, saying that although Triple H was in charge of creatives then, the final call was taken by Vince McMahon. According to Meltzer, Reigns and Heyman did so so that the company could prepare a bigger stage for Rhodes to win the title at WrestleMania 40.
And as expected, Cody Rhodes remarkably won the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40. It was probably one of the best main events in the history of WrestleMania, with legends like The Rock, John Cena, and The Undertaker being part of the match. Since then, Cody Rhodes has been the face of the company.
