Jon Moxley and Marina Shafir are seen as a serious and dominating force on AEW television. However, a recent occasion saw them break character in an extremely rare situation.
The duo began their association in 2024, when Moxley took the former MMA fighter under his wing, and they began making television appearances together. Following that, both AEW stars started appearing regularly in the Jacksonville-based promotion as part of The Death Riders faction.
Since then, Jon Moxley and Marina Shafir have shown their tough demeanor and have been presented as a force to be reckoned with. However, in a photo posted by his wife, Renee Paquette, on social media, a very different side of them can be seen. Both Death Riders members can be seen posing and smiling backstage with Paquette and her and Moxley's daughter, Nora, which is the opposite of their characters presented on AEW television.
Wrestling expert says Jon Moxley is the only person who can stop the Death Riders in AEW
Jon Moxley recently defeated Kazuchika Okada at AEW Worlds End 2025 pay-per-view to win the Continental Classic. Following his monumental victory, he delivered a heartfelt babyface-like promo, despite being a top heel on television. Witnessing that, wrestling expert Sam Roberts believed that the former WWE Champion could be the only one to stop The Death Riders.
"You've got to wonder if the Death Riders feel the same way. When you start a group like that, a cult, and you, as the leader, go 'okay, our work here is done,' these Death Riders are far too invested in what you've taught them ever to say their work is done. Well, now maybe you have to look around and realise that they are going to turn on you. This whole time, we were thinking someone had to be the one to stop Mox and the Death Riders, but what if Mox is the one?" said Roberts. [32:13 -32:51]With Moxley's different side seen at Worlds End, it remains to be seen if he will continue his allegiance with the faction he created.
