"I'm not stupid" - Tommy Fleetwood gets honest after an impressive Round 2 at Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship

Tommy Fleetwood has been in fantastic form this season. So far, he has won two tournaments, including his first PGA Tour title at the Tour Championship. Fleetwood continued this form, walking in the 2025 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship as he shot a fantastic 64 in the first round, 8 under par.

During the second day of the event, the English golfer was once again outstanding on the course, shooting a 66 to take the lead. As of this writing, Fleetwood and Aaron Rai are tied for the lead. Interestingly, after the outstanding round, the golfer discussed how he thinks about his game and how he plans to stay focused over the weekend games.

The golfer stated,

"I feel obviously good about my game, and I'm doing so many things well, but I am also very aware of what the game can do to you as well. So I'm just staying very focussed on each day. I had pretty poor warm-up this morning, really."

Following this, Fleetwood showed his reserved attitude with the game, noting that he is looking forward to enjoying these nice rounds while remaining focused on collecting another win for the season. The golfer stated,

“But yeah, like, I'm having a lot of good rounds, but, you know, I'm not stupid and it's bitten me enough times and, I'll enjoy these good ones, but stay focused and stay trying to do the right things and just hopefully, it continues for as long as possible, really.”

Tommy Fleetwood currently has a total score of 14 under par, two strokes ahead of the three golfers who are tied for second.

Tommy Fleetwood felt "weird" during an interview with Shane Lowry

Following round one of the 2025 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, 5 golfers were tied for the lead. Tommy Fleetwood and Shane Lowry were among them, as both finished the first round with a total score of 64. Interestingly, the DP World Tour's social media made both golfers interview one another, resulting in one of the most amusing moments.

During the interview, Lowry noted that it was strange interviewing his fellow golfer. He stated,

"It's so weird talking about each other over just here."

Furthermore, Tommy Fleetwood stated that it is definitely strange, but he is looking forward to playing all four rounds of the tournament. He stated:

"It's so weird, isn't it? But it was great. I had a great day. I think we played some good golf, fed off each other a little bit. Looking forward to the rest of the week, Shane. I'm looking forward to tomorrow."

In this interview, the two of them also discussed their entire round, explaining how much fun they had playing with their buddies.
