LeSean McCoy didn’t hold back after hearing Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane’s reasoning for staying quiet at the trade deadline. The former Bills running back said Beane has left quarterback Josh Allen with less-than-stellar offensive help.
Beane, now in his ninth year running the Bills’ front office, faces scrutiny as the offense leans heavily on the ground game. Beane spoke to the media on Wednesday, a day after the 4 p.m. deadline passed without a single move from Buffalo.
“Ninety-nine percent of players are available for a price. But it’s not fantasy football," Beane said.•

McCoy jumped on the comment.

“So give Josh the fries at the bottom of the bag type weapons. Thank God for COOK,” he wrote in X.His retweet praised running back James Cook.
Brandon Beane insists Bills’ core is strong despite trade frustration and injury woes
NFL: Scouting Combine - Source: ImagnThe Bills have leaned on James Cook, who ranks second in the league with 867 rushing yards. The team leads the NFL with 161.5 yards per game on the ground, masking a passing game that’s struggled to stretch defenses.
Josh Allen’s 7.3 air yards per attempt mark the lowest of his career, and over half his total passing yards have come after the catch. Tight end Dalton Kincaid has carried much of the aerial load, posting two 100-yard outings this season.
Brandon Beane’s decision to stand pat wasn’t for lack of effort. He reworked nickelback Taron Johnson’s contract to open up roughly $1.75 million in cap space and had other financial maneuvers ready if a deal came together. Still, no trade materialized, marking Buffalo’s first quiet deadline since 2021.
"Believe me, I went home as mad as any other fan. I wanted to do things," Beane said Wednesday, according to the New York Times. "If it made sense, I was trying to do it. I mean, candidly, I would've lost money yesterday on the Bills doing a move."Beane defended his inactivity by pointing to the Bills' 6-2 record and his experience evaluating championship rosters.
"I’ve been to the Super Bowl a couple times," Beane said. "I’ve seen us be in AFC Championship Games. You don’t get to AFC Championship Games without having a championship roster."Buffalo’s injury situation has only complicated matters. Defensive end Michael Hoecht tore his Achilles last week, while defensive tackle Ed Oliver remains sidelined with a biceps injury. Cook is also nursing an ankle issue, and the overall list of injured starters keeps growing.
