As mentioned earlier, Gospel of the Devotee is an ancestral Unique Focus built specifically for the Necromancer in Diablo 4. It boasts a solid set of modifiers that revolve around boosting the damage of the class' Basic Skills.

Core modifiers

  • +14.5% Basic Attack Speed
  • +136 Intelligence
  • +662 Maximum Life
  • +25.4% Chance for Basic Skills to Deal Double Damage

All these modifiers revolve around Necromancers' Basic Skills, allowing them to perform faster combos and do much more damage than previously possible.

Unique Effect

Here is Gospel of the Devotee's Unique Effect:

"Your Basic Skills are empowered. Damaging an enemy with a Basic Skill causes them to take 40%[x] increased damage from your other Basic Skills for 10 seconds."
  • Reap attacks 10% faster.
  • Decompose now spawns a Corpse every 0.5 seconds.
  • Hemorrhage triggers an additional burst on the initial target.
  • Bone Splinters pierce through enemies.

This Unique Effect allows Necromancers to boost the efficiency of their Basic Skills while synergizing with abilities like Corpse Explosion. As a result, they can achieve extremely high single-target damage. Builds centered around Basic Skills can now generate stronger burst damage and meaningful synergies, making them capable of defeating bosses, elites, and mobs alike.

Diablo 4: How to get Gospel of the Devotee

Gospel of the Devotee falls under the randomized loot category, which means it can be acquired through Diablo 4's RNG. However, there are ways you can target-farm it.

Here are all the ways you can get this Unique Focus in Diablo 4:

1) World Events and Nightmare Dungeons

Hunting down world bosses is one of the best ways to acquire Gospel of the Devotee (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)Hunting down world bosses is one of the best ways to acquire Gospel of the Devotee (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)

World events like World Boss encounters, Legion Events, Helltide Events, and Infernal Hordes are great places to acquire multiple Unique items, including Gospel of the Devotee.

Nightmare Dungeons are the best places to hunt down random Unique items. Running them in higher difficulty increases the drop chance of Gospel of the Devotee.

In Helltide Events, you can target chests containing specific item types and use collected Aberrant Cinders to open them. This gives you another way to target-farm Gospel of the Devotee.

2) Farming specific bosses

Varshan

You can fight the Echo of Varshan inside the Malignant Burrow dungeon near the Tree of Whispers. Upon defeat, Varshan grants access to his loot hoard, which has a high chance of dropping Gospel of the Devotee and other Unique items. To open his hoard, you need 12 Malignant Hearts.

Here are the sources of Malignant Hearts:

  • Astaroth in the Escalating Nightmares
  • Whisper Caches
  • Mystery Chests in Infernal Hordes events

Urivar

Urivar can be found in the Fields of Judgment dungeon in Nahantu’s Teganze Plateau area. Defeat him to get his loot hoard, which has a chance of dropping multiple Unique items. To open his hoard, you must gather 12x Judicator's Masks.

Here are the sources of Judicator's Masks:

  • Astaroth in the Escalating Nightmares
  • Whisper Caches
  • Kurast Undercity

Gamble using Murmuring Obols

If you have a bunch of unused Murmuring Obols in your inventory, you can use them to gamble for Gospel of the Devotee at the Purveyor of Curiosities. This system is completely RNG-based, so the drop rate is extremely low.

Gospel of the Devotee's ability not only grants Necromancers increased damage, but it also grants you boosted attack speed and corpse explosion synergy. If you are playing a Basic Skill-based Necromancer build, this Unique Focus is a great addition to your arsenal.
