How Jalen Hurts can pass Carson Wentz, make Eagles history vs. Cowboys

25 minutes ago 2

Jalen Hurts supplanted Carson Wentz as the starting quarterback in Philadelphia, and now he has an opportunity to pass Wentz in the Eagles’ history books against the rival Cowboys in Dallas on Sunday.

Hurts needs 150 passing yards against Dallas to pass Wentz for the fourth-most in Eagles franchise history. Wentz threw for 16,811 yards in an Eagles uniform, while Hurts enters the game against Dallas having thrown for 16,662 yards.

On the season, Hurts is averaging 199.5 passing yards per game this season, so assuming that he hits his average, he’ll pass Wentz this week.

In addition to being fifth (and soon to be fourth) in total passing yards in franchise history, Hurts is also sixth in passing touchdowns with 101. He needs 11 to pass Norm Snead (111) for fifth and 13 to pass Wentz (113) for fourth. Donovan McNabb is the Eagles’ all-time leader in both yards (32,873) and touchdowns (216).

Ironically enough, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott will also have an opportunity to make some franchise history on Sunday.

Prescott will enter the game against Philadelphia just 159 yards shy of Tony Romo for the most passing yards in Cowboys franchise history. Romo compiled 34,183 passing yards over the course of his career. Prescott is averaging 258.7 yards per game this season, so barring a subpar performance against the Eagles defense, he'll claim the top spot for himself this weekend.

The matchup will be the fifth career meeting between Hurts and Prescott. They've split the previous four meetings, which all occurred in the regular season. It will also be the second meeting between the Eagles and the Cowboys this season, as Philly pulled out a 24-20 victory over Dallas to kick off the season back in Week 1.
