Giants projected to add two big names to their starting rotation

The San Francisco Giants are looking to take the next step after missing the postseason for the fourth-straight season. They have been hovering right around .500 the last few years, and could use an impact player or two over the winter.

The front office will likely look to do all it can to help first-year coach Tony Vitello. So they will be a team to watch out for during the offseason.

San Francisco comes into the offseason with a need for some bullpen depth and production in the outfield, both offensively and defensively. However, they could use another pitcher as well, with Justin Verlander on the open market.

Giants projected to add two big names to their starting rotation

The Giants have missed out on some of the top free agents over the years, but that could all change this winter. They are an exciting team with a good foundation and an intriguing manager.

While some fans would expect the club to go out and sign someone to a one-year deal to replace Verlander, that might not be the case. Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter believes the team will shock everyone by adding both Framber Valdez and Zac Gallen to the rotation.

"Framber Valdez is arguably the top starter on the market and a virtual lock for a nine-figure payday, while Zac Gallen might be available on a shorter deal following a disappointing contract year but finished strong to again look the part of a potential frontline option."

This would make for a Giants rotation consisting of:

  • Logan Webb
  • Framber Valdez
  • Robbie Ray,
  • Zac Gallen
  • Landen Roupp

On paper, that could rival nearly anyone else's starting rotation. This would give the club depth behind Webb and Ray and should help the club take the next step and make the postseason once again.
