Kelsey Mitchell is rarely active on social media, which is why her post on Monday night raised eyebrows among fans who are waiting on her free agency decision and her upcoming debut in the second season of the Unrivaled league.

In a message shared on X, Mitchell posted a cryptic note, quoting a well-known line from American poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou:

"When people show you who they are, believe them the first time. 🧘🏾‍♀️”

Reactions from fans ranged from worry to encouragement, with many expressing support as they wait to see what Mitchell’s next move in basketball will be.

With Mitchell carrying the load during an injury-riddled season, the Indiana Fever shocked the No. 3 seed Atlanta Dream in the opening round and then pushed the Las Vegas Aces to a tightly contested Game 5 before ultimately falling short.

After that impressive playoff run, Fever general manager Amber Cox made it clear what the organization’s top priority will be this offseason.

“I’m going to sound like a broken record from last year. The priority will be Kelsey Mitchell and making sure she remains in a Fever jersey. Wow, what a season for her. She laid it all out on the line,” Cox said. “(Mitchell) will continue to be a focal point as we enter free agency.”

Mitchell delivered a career-best season, averaging 20.2 points per game while shooting 39.4% from beyond the arc, and she elevated her production in the postseason to 22.3 points per game on 42.9% shooting from deep.

Who are Kelsey Mitchell’s teammates in Unrivaled debut?

Playing in leagues outside the WNBA has become increasingly common for players, especially this offseason, as questions surrounding the league’s future persist amid stalled CBA negotiations.

Kelsey Mitchell is set to join Unrivaled for the first time, appearing in the league’s second season following a successful inaugural campaign in 2025.

Mitchell will suit up for expansion franchise Hive BC, which will debut in 2026 alongside Breeze BC.

With Hive BC, Mitchell will be joined by Sonia Citron, Ezi Magbegor, Natisha Hiedeman, Saniya Rivers and Monique Billings.

Several other Fever players are also slated to compete in Unrivaled, with Lexie Hull joining Rose BC, Aliyah Boston playing for Phantom BC and Aari McDonald set to represent Breeze BC.

Unrivaled is scheduled to begin its second season on Jan. 4.
