Toronto Maple Leafs fans on social media speculated that Auston Matthews’ injury will be the main topic when GM Brad Treliving addresses the press conference on Tuesday.

The Leafs are struggling with an 8-9-2 record through 19 games, hampered by a five-game losing streak, defensive breakdowns, a growing injury list, and poor secondary scoring.

Treliving’s availability comes at a time of increasing pressure on the organization, with questions swirling about head coach Craig Berube’s job security and the overall direction of the team under Treliving’s leadership.

Here's what Maple Leafs fans on X (formerly called Twitter) said about the conference. One tweeted:

"Matthews is out for the season."

Another chimed in:

"We believe in the group. Injuries have played a factor. Lots of new faces trying to adjust". Saved Brad some time.

Here are some of the other top reactions on X:

"Unless it’s a trade tell him. To kick rocks. Don’t need to hear about the injuries excuses and we are always looking to improve quotes. Let’s see some actions or get lost," a third fan wrote. "Either he's gonna say nothing's changing or we're gonna find out Matthews succumbed to his stomach flu two years ago and that the 34 we've been watching was just some guy they pulled off the street. No in-between," one X user said. "Matthews done for the year," another posted. "Sounds like Matthews is done for the season?" another chimed in.

How long has Auston Matthews been injured for the Maple Leafs?

Auston Matthews sustained a lower-body injury during last week’s game against the Boston Bruins. According to head coach Craig Berube, Matthews has not yet returned to the ice for skating since the injury occurred.

In addition to Matthews, the Maple Leafs are also missing several other key players: defensemen Chris Tanev and Brandon Carlo, goaltender Anthony Stolarz, and forward Scott Laughton.

Auston Matthews has notched 14 points through nine goals and five assists in 17 games this season.
