According to a report shared by WBTV, Hendrick Motorsports Technical Solution in the Charlotte metro area signed a $2.25 million deal with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in August 2025. The deal was a non-competitive process, as ICE needed the vehicles on a priority basis.
The deal between HM and ICE was for 25 standard, stock Chevrolet Tahoes, and Hendrick Companies claimed it to be a normal commercial sale. HM has been selling vehicles to government agencies for many years and claimed they don’t control how ICE utilizes them.
The new vehicles were bought to support the inspection, investigation, enforcement, and removal operations. However, many believe that the deal was linked to the Charlotte’s Web program. ICE recently took over 130 people into custody over the weekend and made 81 arrests on Saturday.
Following that, Hendrick Companies’ spokesperson stated (via WBTV):
“Earlier this year, we sold 25 standard Chevrolet Tahoes to the federal government. The vehicles were unmodified, and we fulfilled the commercial sale. We do not participate in or control how agencies equip, brand, or use vehicles after purchase.”However, the community have a divided take on the situation. Many suggest that this is a step in the right direction to increase safety, while others protest that ICE has been creating a sense of fear, and protests took place in uptown Charlotte over the weekend.
"Things are really hard under these rules": Hendrick Motorsports owners on winning Cup Series titles under the current format
Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick sat down with Cup Scene post the Cup Series Championship 4 race. During the interaction, Hendrick opened up about the unpredictability of the current playoff format.
Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Larson outperformed the season-dominating driver Denny Hamlin in the 319-lap Phoenix race. Reflecting on that, the HMS owner emphasized the unpretentious nature of the stock car racing playoff format and stated:
“I think Kyle (will) win a lot of championships. It’s so hard. I look at Denny and how good Denny’s run and he hadn’t got one. These things are really hard under these rules to win a championship. You can win all the races, you can win a ton of races, you get here, have a flat tire, things can happen. A lot of these things are out of your control.” (21:25 onwards)Hendrick Motorsports' owner referred to the three-race elimination format the governing body has been using since 2014. In this format, each round eliminates four drivers till only four remain to battle for the championship title.
However, the Cup Series team owner believes that the new format does not always favor the dominating driver compared to the chase format. The chase format used in old-school racing was promising and favored the dominating driver, during which Jimmie Johnson clinched seven titles for HMS.
