Adam Silver Mourns Loss of ex-NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue Sharing Emotional Nessage in Heartfelt Tribute

Adam Silvers mourned the loss of ex-NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue in an NBA press release on Sunday. Tagliabue was one of the most-renowned sports league commissioners during his tenure.

He took over the NFL's command from Pete Rozelle in 1989. He served as the league's commissioner for 17 years, leading the NFL to new heights. The number of teams expanded from 28 to 32 during his tenure.

He died on Sunday due to a heart condition that was complicated by his parkinsons disease. Adam Silver extended his condolences to the Tagliabue family and thanked the former NFL commissioner for his mentorship in the press release.

"Paul Tagliabue was not just a pioneering commissioner, he was a mentor and friend to me and so many others. With his vision, integrity and tenacity, he ushered in an unprecedented era of growth in the NFL," the NBA commissioner said.

"At the NBA, we also knew Paul as a former basketball standout at Georgetown University who was always available for advice and counsel."

Later in the release, Silver gave a tribute to Tagliabue for his contributions to the professional sports world and his efforts to unite people through sports.

"Among his many enduring lessons of leadership we remember was his understanding of the power of sports to bring people together and make a difference off the field of play, including most recently collaborating with our league to promote civic engagement around the country," Silver continued. "Paul was that kind of selfless leader throughout his life and career. I send my deepest condolences to Paul's family and everyone in the NFL family on the loss of a giant in professional sports."

Tagliabue was succeeded by the current NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, in 2006.

The NBA approved the Lakers' sale to businessman and LA Dodgers owner Mark Walter on Oct. 30. The league released a letter announcing its approval for the sale. The LA franchise has reportedly been sold to Walter at a record $10 billion valuation. Jeanie Buss will remain the franchise's governor for at least the next five years.

In the press letter, league commissioner Adam Silver expressed his excitement for Buss.

"I am thrilled that Jeanie will remain the team’s governor and an active and engaged member of our league," he said.

The NBA has formally approved the sale of the Lakers to Dodgers owner Mark Walter. Of Jeanie Buss, Commissioner Adam Silver says: “I am thrilled that Jeanie will remain the team’s governor and an active and engaged member of our league.”

Earlier in the press release, Silver had praised Walter's commitment to the Lakers and the league.
