The movie opens in 1857 with a Royal Danish Navy ship frozen in the Arctic ice. The crew, led by Captain Anderson, comes across an extremely battered Victor, who after some time, faces the Creature and asks for Victor’s surrender. Victor says that he made the Creature and starts telling the events that led to the Arctic.

It tells the story of the childhood of Victor, who lost his mother and was emotionally neglected by his father, Baron Leopold Frankenstein. Victor turns his focus on death and eventually becomes a doctor of great skill, though he is expelled from the Royal College of Surgeons for bringing a dead body back to life. Weapons maker Henrich Harlander gives Victor the means and a tower as a lab where Victor does experiments on human remains.

Meanwhile, it also showcases Victor’s romantic and complicated relationship with Elizabeth, who is Harlander’s niece and is engaged to Victor’s brother William.

Victor finishes building the Creature in the middle of a storm and uses a strike from the lightning to give life to the body. The Creature stays alive and shows regenerative power and physical strength. Victor puts it in the tower under control, but when they try to dominate it, they have a fight, the laboratory is destroyed, and Victor loses a leg.

After that, the movie switches to the Creature’s perspective. The escape from the tower is followed by the farmhouse hiding, where the Creature watches, and later he sees a blind man whom he befriends and learns language, and gets to know his own situation. When he is fully aware of his origin, he goes to Victor and asks Victor to make a companion for him.

Victor denies leading to a confrontation night of William and Elizabeth’s wedding, and death of both characters results from there.

The last part of the movie is about Victor following the Creature in the Antarctic, trying to kill him. They both manage to get on Captain Anderson’s ship. Before he dies, Victor says sorry to him. The Creature helps the crew and watches their departure from the ice.
