At Saturday Night's Main Event next month, John Cena will wrestle in his final match ever. Cena is set to finish his in-ring career at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. against the winner of the upcoming 16-man Last Time is Now Tournament.
WWE hasn't confirmed the participants in the tournament, which will be held on RAW, SmackDown and possibly NXT. Cena also revealed in the video package for the tournament that the 16 stars are going to be from all three brands, as well as people not signed with the company.
Let's look at 11 stars WWE subtly confirmed for the tournament during the promotional video at SNME last Saturday.
John Cena's last opponent leaked? Check here!
#1. The Miz is an old rival
The Miz was the first WWE star shown on the promo video. He has a long history with John Cena and possibly deserved a one-on-one match during the farewell tour. Nevertheless, he needs to be part of the tournament to have at least a part of his rival's final run.
#2. Rusev once brought a tank against John Cena
One of the most memorable entrances in WrestleMania history was Rusev entering WrestleMania 31 riding a tank. He faced The GOAT at that event, failing to retain his United States Championship. He returned to WWE earlier this year after a few years away in AEW.
#3. Solo Sikoa dominated John Cena in their last match
Quite possibly the biggest win of Solo Sikoa's career was at Crown Jewel 2023. He faced Cena in a one-on-one match and dominated to get the impressive win. He has all the muscle of the MFTs to ensure a tournament win if he officially enters his name.
#4. Sheamus beat John Cena for his first WWE Championship
Another former rival of The GOAT, Sheamus cemented his name as a rookie in 2009 when he shockingly defeated Cena in a Tables Match at the TLC event to become the new WWE Champion. The Celtic Warriors also wrestled Edge in his final WWE match two years ago on SmackDown.
#5. LA Knight needs a big win
One of the most popular WWE stars today is LA Knight. The Megastar has constantly been cheered by the live audience, while the online wrestling community is calling for a push. If he wins the tournament and retires Cena, it will do wonders for his career.
#6. Drew McIntyre coming off another loss
After losing to Cody Rhodes at SNME, Drew McIntyre might not get another shot at a title for a while. McIntyre needs to focus on something that could revitalize himself, and what better way to do it than entering this tournament and becoming the man to retire Cena.
#7. Penta vs. John Cena dream match
One of the ways WWE can make Cena's final match memorable is giving fans a dream match. While Penta isn't as huge as the other names on the list, he has developed a cult following due to his career before WWE. He's also capable of putting together a fantastic match against anyone.
#8. Carmelo Hayes represents the future
As John Cena mentioned in his promotional video for the tournament, he wants to give a chance to other WWE stars just like what Kurt Angle did to him in 2002. Carmelo Hayes falls into this category due to his age and potential. It would be huge for his career if he got to face Cena in his final match.
#9. Bronson Reed previously called out John Cena
Bronson Reed has been calling for himself to be Cena's final opponent on social media. With the way he's been dominating matches recently and his alliance with Bron Breakker, it wouldn't be surprising if "Big" Bronson gets his chance to retire The GOAT.
#10. Gunther is the rumored last opponent of John Cena
The rumored final opponent for Cena has been Gunther, who is currently recovering from facial surgery. The Ring General barely loses matches, so he's likely winning the tournament en route to retiring another legendary WWE star. He retired Goldberg earlier this year at Saturday Night's Main Event in Atlanta.
#11. Dominik Mysterio linked to Survivor Series match
Just like Carmelo Hayes, Dominik Mysterio represents the future of WWE. Mysterio is already doing fantastic work as the Intercontinental and AAA Mega Champion. He's been rumored to be facing Cena later this month at Survivor Series: WarGames in his hometown of San Diego, California.
