The New York Yankees are counting on Amed Rosario to share a versatile role off their bench as a player who especially can contribute against left-handed pitching.
Rosario has missed most of Spring Training, though. He was with the Dominican Republic at the World Baseball Classic.
That absence has created a weird dynamic for the Yankees, one that could be a problem if they can't solve it.
Rosario, instead of getting semi-regular at bats if he was in camp with the Yanks, got just one plate appearances over the last few weeks for the Dominican Republic.
The powerhouse D.R. lineup didn't have room for Rosario. He was a veteran presence with versatility that they could've used in a pinch, but it never really was called upon.
Rosario went 0-for-1. He also got into one other game in which he didn't see an at bat.

On the one hand, maybe it's fine because he's going to be a part-time player for the Yankees.
On the other hand, though, you'd still want him as tuned up as possible. The Yanks will likely give Rosario a lot of time down the stretch of Spring Training just to let him see lots of pitches and get some work in.
Rosario hit .303 in 33 at bats after the Yankees acquired him in 2025. They'd love if he can do that again.
To be confident in Rosario, though, the Yanks will probably hope to see something good out of him in the next week or so after he wasn't asked to do much of anything in his time away at the WBC.
