Yankees have extra day to mull Devin Williams’ status as weather postpones Saturday game for Sunday doubleheader

The Yankees will have to wait an extra day to bounce back from Friday’s loss.

Saturday’s game against the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium was postponed due to the forecast of sustained inclement weather, the team said.

The game will be made up as part of a straight doubleheader Sunday beginning at 1:35 p.m.

The postponement gives manager Aaron Boone an extra day to mull what he will do with Devin Williams, who blew a 2-1 lead in the ninth inning Friday and now owns an 11.25 ERA through his first 10 games as a Yankee.

After Friday’s game, Boone was noncommittal about whether he would keep Williams in the closer role moving forward.

If he opts to give the two-time All-Star a breather, he could replace Williams with Luke Weaver, who took over the job late last season for Clay Holmes and has not given up a run in his first 13 innings this season.
