Louisville’s Tyler Shough became the third quarterback taken in the 2025 NFL Draft when the Saints picked him with the 40th overall selection — with Shedeur Sanders getting passed over once again.
The Saints were expected to take a quarterback at some point during the draft, and were viewed as a possible landing spots for Sanders.

Shough’s stock has been on the rise recently and ESPN’s Adam Schefter had said ahead of Day 2 of the draft that he “wouldn’t be surprised” if the Louisville product was taken ahead of Sanders.
It wouldn’t be a stretch to call Shough a super senior after playing seven seasons of college ball, spending time with Oregon, Texas Tech and one year with Louisville.

In 12 games last season, the Cardinals went 8-4, with Shough — pronouned “shuck” — posting a completion percentage of 62.7 while throwing for 3,195 yards and 23 touchdowns.
The 25-year-old joins Cam Ward and Jaxson Dart as the first quarterbacks taken so far this year’s draft.
