There may have been a few dry eyes in the house as the late Hall of Fame owner of the New York Football Giants, Wellington Mara, presented Lawrence Taylor with his 56 jersey on Oct. 10, 1994, when it was retired at halftime of a Monday night game against the Vikings.
“I guess I should be nervous, but I’m not because this is my house,” LT said, and the roar of the crowd wouldn’t stop accompanying his heartfelt emotions. “This is one of the three proudest moments I’ve ever had here. The first came in 1981 when we beat Dallas to go to the playoff for the first time in 20 years. The second was in 1987 when we beat the Redskins to go to the Super Bowl, and the third is tonight.”
Maybe, if he is the game-wrecker of a player the Giants believe he is, first-round draft choice Abdul Carter can have himself a forever night like this.
He can dream about being Lawrence Taylor and he can float his fantasy about wearing 56 to Micah Parsons.
