Yankees flame-throwing prospect turning heads with 'spectacular' spring performance

The New York Yankees have some of the most interesting players in all of Major League Baseball on their roster. But one of the more interesting might not even make the Opening Day roster.

While Spencer Jones and Jasson Dominguez are fun prospects, there's another who takes the cake for the most interesting prospect. That player is flame-throwing righty Carlos Lagrange.

Jim Bowden of The Athletic named Lagrange as the player "turning heads" at Yankees spring training. Brian Cashman agrees, as he called Lagrange's performance so far "spectacular," and called the young righty an "exciting talent."

Yankees' Carlos Lagrange turning heads at spring training

"Carlos has as big an arm as you can find with velocity up to 102 mph," Cashman said. "His performance has been spectacular. He acts like he belongs. Exciting talent."

While his trademark is the 102 mph fastball, his secondary pitches are also deadly for hitters. "The 22-year-old has been overpowering the hitters he's faced with that fastball and a swing-and-miss sweeper."

The 22-year-old righty has been one of the most impressive players across all of baseball this spring. In four games this spring, across 13.2 innings, Lagrange has a 0.66 ERA with a 0.73 WHIP to go with 13 strikeouts.

Lagrange is coming off a solid 3.53 ERA season across 24 games in the minor leagues last year. In Double-A, the highest he's ever been in the Yankees organization, he posted a 3.22 ERA in 16 games (15 starts) with 104 strikeouts in 78.1 innings.

While there might not be an immediate spot for Lagrange in the Major Leagues this year, the Yankees should have no problem getting him in the rotation at some point this season.

The production he's shown this spring cannot be ignored. Cashman's acknowledgment of how great Lagrange has been is a good sign that he could break onto the MLB roster soon.

Across all of Major League Baseball, there might not be a player, other than the top prospect in Konnor Griffin, turning more heads this spring than Lagrange.

He looks the part of a Major Leaguer, and the young Yankees pitcher could be a huge piece of the team in 2026 if he can continue his spring dominance into the regular season.
