Now, Netflix is set to be the exclusive home of yet another huge fight involving Jake Paul, as the former YouTube star takes on Anthony Joshua on Dec. 19.

Why is Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua on Netflix?

The Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua fight is yet another big-time bout that will be available exclusively on Netflix, another chapter of the streaming service making it clear it wants to be involved in top sports events. However, it's also no coincidence that Jake Paul will be fighting in a Netflix event once again.

Most Valuable Promotions, the promotional company started by Paul, launched a partnership with Netflix in 2024 that first led to Paul vs. Tyson, per The Athletic. So, the recent plans have always been for Paul to fight in Netflix events — although, according to The Athletic, Most Valuable Promotions is now in talks with Sky Sports about a deal that would bring live boxing back to the platform in 2026.

Originally, Paul's late-2025 fight was supposed to be against Gervonta Davis, but that bout was canceled. Still, Paul's team was set on finding a new opponent, and it wound up being Anthony Joshua. But in terms of logistics, there was one roadblock for Paul vs. Joshua: DAZN had an exclusive deal with Joshua, while Paul was with Netflix.

However, according to The Daily Mail, DAZN released Joshua from his exclusive contract for his one-off fight with Paul. Since June 2022, Joshua had been on a lucrative deal with DAZN, with the fighter becoming a shareholder, special advisor and brand ambassador for the company.

Joshua was reportedly granted permission from DAZN to engage in the Netflix fight with Paul, then he will resume his previous terms with DAZN.

With Paul already having the Netflix deal in place but needing an opponent, DAZN allowed Joshua to participate.

Why was Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis canceled?

Originally, Jake Paul was going to fight Gervonta Davis on Netflix in November 2025. However, it was cancelled in light of allegations being brought up against Davis, as he was named in a civil lawsuit that accused him of violent behavior, battery and kidnapping.

Davis was accused of attacking a woman, who claims to be his ex-girlfriend and a "VIP waitress" at a Miami Gardens gentleman's club, on Oct. 27, but she also said that incident was not isolated. The woman alleged Davis choked her in August and held her against her will with a weapon at his home in September, and she claimed Davis threatened to kill her in September after she refused to answer his phone calls.

The lawsuit was a civil filing, but ESPN reported a police report was also filed in Miami Gardens.

With Davis unable to participate in the fight due to his civil lawsuit, Paul pursued another opponent for a rescheduled fight and landed on Joshua.
