No matter the sport, rivalries don't get much better than Texas-Oklahoma, but this weekend's baseball clash also happens to feature two of the country's best teams.
The Longhorns are ranked No. 2 nationally and the Sooners No. 8 heading into their three-game set in Austin. Texas took two of three at No. 5 Auburn last weekend before dropping a midweek game to Houston, while Oklahoma won two of three at LSU its last time out.
Run prevention has been the key for the Longhorns so far this season. Their 2.72 team ERA is tied for third-best in the country, with sophomore lefty Dylan Volantis leading the way. The 2025 national freshman of the year for his work as a closer has moved into the rotation and is 3-0 with a 1.35 ERA in six starts, striking out 44 in 33.1 innings. Seton Hall transfer Aiden Robbins leads the offense with a 1.165 OPS, nine home runs and 29 RBIs.
UNLV transfer LJ Mercurius has paced the Sooners' pitching staff at 5-1 with a 1.87 ERA and 0.86 WHIP, piling up 48 strikeouts in 33.2 innings, while Trey Gambill leads the offense with a 1.167 OPS.
