Brewers announce brutal Jackson Chourio news on MLB Opening Day

Opening Day is finally here for Major League Baseball, and it's a time to get excited about the upcoming 162-game season.

For the Milwaukee Brewers, while the roster isn't as good as it was last year, thanks to the trade of Freddy Peralta and Caleb Durbin, there is still reason to be optimistic about the team.

However, the Brewers announced some brutal news on their top player in Jackson Chourio, as the star outfielder is hitting the injured list and will miss some time with a left-hand fracture.

Brewers place Jackson Chourio on IL

"Weve made the following transaction: Jackson Chourio, OF, placed on 10-day IL with left hand fracture, retroactive to 3/25. Blake Perkins, OF, recalled from Triple-A Nashville," the Brewers announced.

This is some brutal news for the Brewers on Opening Day. It's out of nowhere, as they will now be down one of their best players for some time.

According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, this injury for Chourio will be a 2-4 week recovery for the star outfielder.

Chourio is going to miss not just the next 10 days, but he could potentially be out for almost a month, depending on how his recovery goes.

This spring, in 10 games and 33 at-bats, Chourio had a .733 OPS. Last year, across 131 games played, he had a .770 OPS and was an overall solid player.

While Opening Day is supposed to be an exciting time for every team, as the regular season is finally underway, the Brewers have been dealt some awful news right off the bat.

Chourio is going to miss some time, as he sustained a fracture in his left hand that will force him to miss Opening Day against the Chicago White Sox and the next few weeks as well.
