What happened to Trevon Diggs? Details behind Cowboys CB's injury and return timeline

1 hour ago 2

The Dallas Cowboys haven't had the services of cornerback Trevon Diggs since Week 6.

Diggs was placed on injured reserve on Oct. 25, just one day before the team's Week 8 game against the Denver Broncos.

Diggs was listed with a concussion and knee injury on the injury report before being placed on IR, but there is a mystery surrounding the former issue.

Here's everything we know about Diggs' situation, including the details behind his injuries and when he's expected back.

What happened to Trevon Diggs?

There is some mystery surrounding Diggs' concussion. The Cowboys cornerback had an accident at home that led to his head injury.

"Trevon Diggs came in this morning with some concussion symptoms after having an accident at his home," head coach Brian Schottenheimer said on Oct. 17. "He's been checked out by our doctors and is in the protocol and will miss the game."

The exact details behind Diggs' accident aren't known, though, and it's surprising nothing has come to light yet. The Cowboys said Diggs will tell the story the next time he meets with the media, which will likely be upon his return.

As far as his knee is concerned, it's not the same one Diggs has had issues with in the past, owner Jerry Jones said, but there aren't more details beyond that.

“Diggs’ biggest problem is he’s injured and it’s not the same knee he’s been doing his rehab with,” Jones said. “That’s his No. 1 challenge. Unfortunately, he’s got a handful of challenges here that are physically related."

When is Trevon Diggs coming back?

Once the Cowboys finish their Week 11 game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night, Diggs will have missed three straight games, which means he technically only has to miss one more.

So, Diggs will first be eligible to return from injured reserve for the Week 13 game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thanksgiving. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, though.

There is optimism he could be ready when first eligible, though, as Diggs has been spotted working on a side field during practice on multiple occasions, so it would appear he's doing well in his recovery.

There was initially some thought that perhaps Diggs would miss the rest of the season and might be done with the Cowboys, as he's a clear cut candidate next offseason, but Jones said he doesn't see that happening "at all."
