Sacramento Kings guard Russell Westbrook surpassed two Boston Celtics legends in the NBA’s all-time scoring list on Friday. Heading into their game against the San Antonio Spurs, Westbrook sat at No. 20 with 26,392 points. The former MVP previously trailed John Havlicek and Paul Pierce by three and five points, respectively.

Steph Curry (25,706) is behind Westbrook in the all-time scoring ladder among active players, making the comparison unsurprising. Westbrook entered the NBA in 2008, while the Golden State Warriors' superstar arrived a year later.
Curry, though, has a shot at overtaking Westbrook. While the former Thunder star is no longer the primary option on offense, the two-time MVP remains the focal point of the Warriors. Curry, averaging 29.1 points per game this season, has not shown signs of slowing down.
Russell Westbrook finished with 14 points in the Kings' 123-110 loss to the Spurs, bringing his career total to 26,406 points. He is now 90 points behind Tim Duncan (No. 17) and 262 behind Dominique Wilkins (No. 16). Westbrook is averaging 16.0 ppg this month, making it likely he will surpass both before the halfway point of the season.
Kings' Russell Westbrook-led fourth quarter rally fell short against Spurs
The Sacramento Kings trailed 95-85 entering the fourth quarter but had a good chance of pulling off a come-from-behind win. San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama did not play because of a calf strain, while guard Stephon Castle (hip) lasted only in the first half.
Russell Westbrook, the Kings’ energy booster, tried to rally his team to the finish line. He played the entire fourth quarter and delivered six points, four rebounds and four assists. The oldest player in the game gallantly tried to carry his team, which had younger and former All-Stars on the roster.
Former Kings star De’Aaron Fox outdueled Westbrook in the final frame. Fox dropped 12 points with one assist to fend off the home team’s attempt to turn the game around. Fox’s step-back 25-footer with 44.6 seconds extended the Spurs’ lead to 123-110.
Although the Kings lost, Russell Westbrook showed a never-say-die attitude that had Spurs fans applauding his efforts.
