Earlier this week, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported that the Los Angeles Rams were no longer interested in trading for Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver A.J. Brown, but didn’t provide a reason why.
That all changed on Wednesday when Florio revealed the reason why the Rams have pulled out of the Brown sweepstakes this offseason.
"They (Rams) got scared off, as I'm told, by some of the preliminary medical research," Florio said. "They decided (it) was too much of an investment for a player at this age, general wear and tear.”
“We're not going to do it, but they were lining it all up so that if they got AJ Brown, they trade Davante Adams. They were looking for trade partners for Davante Adams. Now, they paid him the $6 million over the weekend. It's done.”
Unlike the New England Patriots, who have also been linked to a blockbuster trade for Brown, the Rams aren’t in desperate need of a No. 1 receiver.
Would it have been nice to add Brown to the equation at some point this offseason? Absolutely, as the 28-year-old Super Bowl champion has shown, he is a matchup nightmare due to his ability to consistently come down with 50-50 balls, create separation downfield, and take over games when in rhythm.
However, with superstar wideouts Davante Adams and Puka Nukua being the Rams’ top-2 receivers heading into the 2026-27 season, it’s safe to say Los Angeles will be just fine without Brown on their roster.
