Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton failed to make it into the final round during the sprint qualifying at the 2025 Brazilian GP and only managed P11. The seven-time F1 champion spoke with the media after the disappointing session and detailed what happened out on the track.

The 40-year-old had a tough time in the practice session as he spun the SF25 around after the rear bottomed out on a kerb. Coming into qualifying, Hamilton barely made it out of SQ1 after a minimal improvement on the final lap of the session.

SQ2 was expected to be a tough session for both Ferrari drivers, given their pace in SQ1. Lewis Hamilton was outside the Top 10 (in the elimination zone) when he started his final lap in SQ2. However, his teammate Charles Leclerc, who was ahead of him, spun around and brought out the yellow flag.

The Monegasque was still the wrong way around when his teammate passed him by, and Hamilton failed to improve and was eliminated. Speaking with the media after the race, Lewis Hamilton didn't seem disappointed but was unbothered, as if he'd given up.

“Yeah, it definitely didn't help, but… It's not for the lack of trying. The team thought we were a lot faster than we are. We gave it everything and that's ultimately what matters most, we were just not quick enough,” said the seven time F1 champion “It's hard to say when you're in SQ2. But we're working hard, so it's not much more I can do,” responded Hamilton when questioned if the team has made any progress

Hamilton is also under investigation by the FIA for a yellow flag infringement. The Briton seemingly failed to slow down when passing his teammate Charles Leclerc, who had spun around and brought out the yellow flags.

Lewis Hamilton is pessimistic about his chances in the Sprint race

Points are only awarded to the Top 8 in the Sprint race. With a possible penalty looming over Lewis Hamilton for the yellow flag infringement, he was questioned about his expectations from the sprint race and whether the Briton could put in a special drive like he's done in the past at Interlagos.

“I'm 11th now so... I think at this point, it's literally just about having fun. It's not going well from my side in the year and ... yeah, I just have to just enjoy it wherever I am. That's all I can do,” said Lewis Hamilton

Hamilton started the 2021 Brazilian GP sprint race from P20 and finished the race in P5 following an amazing drive in mixed weather conditions. With heavy rain expected ahead of the Sprint race, anything could happen, but the chances of making the points seem bleak if it's a straightforward race.
