Alejandro Davidovich Fokina had an eventful end to his Round of 32 clash at the 2025 Paris Masters against Arthur Cazaux, resulting in the Spaniard being booed off the court by French fans.
Davidovich Fokina disposed off Cazaux, the local lad, in straight sets on Wednesday, winning 7-6(5),6-4. The Parisian crowd were firmly in support of Cazaux, as expected, which appears to have rubbed his opponent the wrong way.
After the win, Fokina took out his frustration agains the French fans with a novel celebration -- imitating NBA superstar Steph Curry's iconic 'Nighty Night' celebration. This riled up the crowd even further, as they responded to the provoking with a loud round of boos against the Spaniard.
At his press conference after the loss, Cazaux shared his thoughts on the celebration, insinuating that Davidovich Fokina will have even fewer fans supporting him in the Round of 16 match next.
"He made his little celebration at the end. Everybody reacts their own way. It's never easy to have the public against you. That's the way he reacted." "I don't know whether I would have reacted in the same way, but all I can do is shut up, because he played his match. He was better than I was. All I can say is bravo. It won't be my fault if there is not very many French people behind him in the next rounds," Cazaux said.Unperturbed, Fokina will look to stretch his run at the Paris Masters in the coming days, hoping to improve on his poor record at the Masters 1000 tournament. In four previous appearances, he has never gone past the third round before in Paris.
