The Washington Commanders are in search of a new kicker after the team cut veteran Matt Gay loose on Monday.
And, it appears the Commanders have already found their guy.
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Commanders have signed kicker Jake Moody off the Chicago Bears' practice squad.
"The Commanders have signed kicker Jake Moody off of the Bears practice squad, per source. Another new kicker for Washington, which cut Matt Gay today," he reported.
The Commanders cut Gay loose after he struggled mightily this season en route to a 68.4% field goal success rate. The last straw was Gay's two field goal misses in the Week 11 loss to the Miami Dolphins.
Moody was a third-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2023.
After a promising rookie campaign that saw him make 84% of his field goals, it was downhill from there.
Moody struggled in 2024 and his issues bled into 2025, which led to San Francisco cutting ties with him.
Moody latched on with the Bears' practice squad not long after and has appeared in two games with Chicago this season.
In those games, Moody has nailed 88.9% (8-of-9) of his field goal attempts and all three of his extra points. Moody has not made a field goal from 50-plus in 2025, but he does have three makes from 40-plus and another three from 30-plus.
The Michigan product will turn 26 on Nov. 23, so if he can right the ship with the Commanders, he could be a long-term solution.
