USA-Canada women's hockey gold medal game deemed not 'high demand' by Olympics

Is it a surprise? Not at all.

But when Team USA and Canada meet in the women's hockey gold medal game on Thursday, it'll be one of the most-anticipated clashes of these entire 2026 Winter Olympics.

Tell that to the organizers.

For media members looking to cover the championship showdown, the game has been deemed not to be a "high demand" event.

As far as logistics, that just means media seating is first come, first serve.

The only "high demand" event on the Olympic hockey slate is the men's gold medal game. At an event like that, the press coordinator will organize where media members can sit so as to ensure the highest-priority outlets get appropriate seating.

The women’s hockey Olympic Gold Medal final between Canada and USA is not considered a “high demand” event, meaning media attending will get spots in the press box on a first come first serve basis.

It doesn't mean anything in particular about how the game will actually be covered.

The domestic broadcasts will throw their full resources at this huge game, which begins at 1:10 p.m. ET on Thursday (7:10 p.m. local time in Milan).

At minimum, though, it's an odd language choice that isn't a great look.

They must feel, essentially, that seating for media members won't be oversaturated. Still, though, it's a huge gold medal game. Seems like the Olympics could've been safe on this one and deemed it "high demand," because for most sports fans, that's exactly what it is.
